HOPE HEALTH
Since 2017, TDRP has been hosting yearly community health fairs in the rural mountains of Haiti. Since the inception of HOPE HEALTH community fairs, TDRP has provided care to over 1200 residents of Nan Citron which is located in the Central Plateau and with majority of its people unable to pay for the most basic of healthcare.
HOPE Health provides healthcare free of charge, and patients with urgent medical needs are transported to St. Theraise Hospital in Hinche where they are directly admitted through collaborative efforts between TDRP and its medical staff and the hospital physicians. The burden of financially covering a hospitalization, medications, transportation, assistive devices, and food are relieved of the family through the generous donations of our partners. Families are then able to focus on their loved one receiving care and prepare for the healing process.
With an inadequate healthcare system in the country Haitians suffer greatly with curable and preventative diseases, such as hypertension, diabetes, tuberculosis, HIV/AIDS, dermatological conditions, mental health, flu, maternal/child mortality, and so many more. At most hospitals or clinics, Haitians are required to bring their own supplies, such as normal saline, tubing, catheters, bandages, bedding, pillows, etc. Most Haitians return home as they are unable to afford these materials or are focused on their loved ones getting care instead of remembering the household goods.
TDRP is on a quest to change this for the communities served, starting with the building of HOPE HEALTH in Berou, a neighboring township of Pignon, located in the Nord region of Haiti.
HOPE HEALTH will be a beacon of light for healthcare in this community and will assist in the care of neighboring communities through collaborative efforts with local NGOs. It will feature an urgent care clinic as well as a maternal/child wellness center and will host a pediatric ward, small surgical suite for minor injuries, laboratory and x-ray, dentistry, labor and delivery, and surgical recovery ward. In addition, there will be a physicians' quarters for staff as well as visiting physicians from various parts of Haiti, also including a medical library. Medical missionary teams traveling from the US to Haiti will work with staff physicians in teaching new techniques and elevating skills for the betterment of the community's health. Lastly, HOPE HEALTH will work with local nursing schools to provide employment opportunities for nurses as well as work with agencies who have proven success in the communities, such as Midwives for Haiti, to ensure continuity of care.
TDRP is EXCITED to build this quality center for the people we care for; however, TDRP NEEDS YOUR HELP through either a partnership or donation to the project. There is much work to be done, and together, we can accomplish the building of HOPE HEALTH.
